Background
and TrainingAndrei, a sole practitioner, holds a BFA degree in Restoration Technology and an MFA in Museum Studies (both from the Fashion Institute of Technology). His paintings restoration skills were further developed at the Institute for Art and Restoration ("Palazzo Spinelli") in Florence, Italy and through internship at the restoration studio of Luca Bonetti. While there, some notable projects included the restoration of Ilya Bolotowsky's WPA-era mural, "ABSTRACTION," at Goldwater Hospital and Edmond Blashfield's "THE GRADUATE" in Shepherd Hall at City College, New York. He has experience working for other conservation and restoration firms, including Evergreene Painting Studios (New York City) and Sherman Art Conservation (Sea Cliff, NY). What Andrei’s Studio Does For the last several years, Andrei has maintained his own studio specializing in easel painting restoration. The range of clients he works with is diverse - from art dealers preparing contemporary works for exhibition, to restoring the personal family portrait picture that fell from the fireplace mantel and was impaled on a candlestick. Andrei also prepares loss or damage reports for insurance claims. Andrei does NOT restore works on paper such as engravings and prints. What to Expect Andrei gives his clients his individual attention for each project. Initial consultation may be made by email or phone. When a painting is brought to the studio the work is examined and a written estimate of the costs for treatment is prepared. If agreed the client will sign a copy of the invoice. A deposit of 20% is expected before the work begins. The fees are based on a rate of $150 per hour plus materials. There is a minimum charge of $500 for any work taken in. Sometimes a client cannot bring a painting in for examination and in these cases Andrei charges his hourly rate to come to where the work is situated. Most projects are completed within eight weeks. The client will be notified when the work is complete, and will be expected to arrange payment and pick-up within 30 days. Credit cards are NOT accepted.
